There is more at stake for us than the practice of a trade. It’s how we make our contribution – the skills and knowledge we instill into each new addition to the landscape. We love to build. Our work is the sum of hundreds of decisions made in the field, in consultation with project partners and owners, and a million strokes of skilled hands set to each task.
Who we are
A native of Bennington, Vermont, Michael built his first project in 1978 high school trades class – The Bennington Chamber of Commerce. After graduating, Michael went right into the trade – working in Florida on multi-unit residential projects, in California as a supervisor building resort homes in Lake Tahoe, then back to Vermont where he worked as a foreman and finish carpenter on residential and commercial projects in Burlington. In 1984, Michael moved to Boston with his partner and now wife Linda, and founded a design-build firm focusing mainly on major residential renovation projects in Boston and surrounding suburbs. Projects in Boston included custom homes, shopping malls, historic renovations, condominiums and brownstone renovations.
In 1991, Michael and Linda relocated back to Vermont, continued to build, and expanded their trade to include custom built furniture. Their furniture is placed all over the country and internationally, and this work has added to the depth and breadth of Aspen’s offerings to current clients.
Michael continues to head up the business, working in the field overseeing and managing each project. He has built up a tremendous repoire with all the trades, and is a strong advocate for the client. He works personally with each client to ensure that their project is a success. Michael also serves on the Stafford Technical School Advisory Committee, serving young students interested in a career in the building trades.
Linda earned her undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Political Science, and Philosophy from the University of Vermont, and a PhD (abd) in Foundations of Logic in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at MIT in Boston. In addition to supporting the business end of the company, Linda has worked as a consultant for major corporations and public and private institutions as a process analyst, project manager, information specialist, marketing analyst, strategic planner, and trainer in financial, manufacturing, emergency management, municipal management, resort, fine art, and construction industries. Linda has earned many professional certificates in various management fields, including Project Management offered by the renowned Construction Industry Institute programs through the University of Texas at Austin.
Linda currently serves as a project consultant and internal manager for the company. She also serves as the President of the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Southern Vermont (a chapter of the National Association of Home Builders), as a National Director on the National Association of Homes Builders Board of Directors, and with Michael on the Stafford Technical School Advisory Board. Linda is an NAHB Certified Green Professional.
The Aspen Team consists of highly experienced professionals whose sole purpose is to ensure that construction design and methods are adhered to.
